Man faces murder charge in Williamson County related to fentanyl overdose death

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A man was arrested Thursday on a murder charge in connection with a December fentanyl overdose death.

According to law enforcement officials, Kreli Haynes was arrested by U.S. Marshals and the Cedar Park Police Department on a warrant out of Williamson County.

The warrant was issued in connection with an incident where a 16-year-old boy in Leander was found dead from an alleged fentanyl overdose.

Court records didn’t list an attorney for Haynes. This story will be updated when that information is received and if a statement on behalf of Haynes is provided.

Law enforcement said an investigation linked Haynes to the sale of the fentanyl, which later led to his arrest.

Haynes also faces additional charges of possession of a controlled substance and the unlawful carrying of a firearm.
