COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A man will spend nearly nine years in prison for stealing 160,000 rounds of police ammunition and his role in other major thefts, the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

James Scaff, 33, was sentenced Thursday to eight years and nine months in prison for a string of break-ins and thefts in last spring. Scaff stole more than $130,000 worth of appliances and ammunition from multiple warehouses in Columbus.

Last March, Scaff and 37-year-old Christopher Kimmel broke into westside warehouse on Distribution Drive, leaving with $70,000 worth of appliances in a stolen delivery truck. Less than a week later, Scaff broke into another warehouse on Georgesville Road, also on the west side, and stole nearly $3,5000 worth of appliances in a stolen truck.

Just days later, on April 2, Scaff and Kimmel stole two motorcycles, over $64,000 worth of ammunition and a delivery truck from a third warehouse on the west side. The ammunition, totaling 162,000 rounds, was scheduled to be delivered to Columbus police.

Grove City police arrested Scaff on April 4 for having an AR-15 rifle and handgun in his vehicle. He was barred from possessing firearms for stealing a gun in a 2017 burglary.

In November, Scaff pleaded guilty to 13 charges, including breaking and entering, grand theft, receiving stolen property and a weapons violation. His co-defendant, Kimmel, pleaded guilty to multiple charges in December and was sentenced to six years in prison.
