Idaho man identified in deadly police shooting near Everett

EVERETT, Wash. - Northbound I-5 near Everett was fully blocked for several hours due to a deadly shooting involving the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

After 4 p.m., WSP responded to a report of a road rage incident on the shoulder of I-5 northbound, just north of Marine View Drive.

According to the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART), the suspect began ramming their vehicle into a WSDOT construction vehicle and lift that was on the shoulder of the highway.

Two WSDOT contractors were on the lift/vehicle during the incident.

According to SMART, the suspect was armed with a hammer and a physical fight broke out between the suspect, a WSDOT contractor and a trooper.

During that altercation, a WSP trooper shot the suspect.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Marvin Arellano of Nampa, Idaho.

The WSDOT contractors had non-life-threatening injuries.
