Man dies after merging in front of semi-trailer, troopers say

A man has died after a Lake County crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to a news release, the crash happened around 9:53 p.m. Friday on the Florida Turnpike near mile marker 276.

Troopers said a BMW was changing lanes in the direct path of a semi-truck and hit it.

Investigators said the driver ran off the roadway after the crash, hit a concrete traffic barrier and entered the path of the semi-trailer again.

The car overturned, and the 44-year-old man was ejected.

Officials said the man died at the scene, and the passengers, an 8-year-old boy and a 39-year-old woman, were transported to the South Lake Hospital with minor injuries.

The 47-year-old semi-driver was not injured and stayed at the scene.

FHP said the crash is still under investigation.
