Man dies in hospital two weeks after he was shot on Lafayette Drive in Columbus

A man has died two weeks after being found shot on Lafayette Drive in Columbus, according to officials.

The victim has been identified as Paul Richardson, 35, who died Tuesday night, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

The shooting occurred around 9 p.m., April 16, on Lafayette Drive in Columbus, according to Columbus police.

Bryan said Richardson suffered a gunshot wound to the spine that traveled into his head.

Richardson was pronounced brain dead at 4:36 p.m. and experienced cardiac death at 8:27 p.m., according to Bryan.

This is the 17th homicide in Columbus in 2024, according to a list compiled by the Ledger-Enquirer.

Columbus experienced 57 homicides in 2023, according to a list compiled by the Ledger-Enquirer.
