A woman allegedly shot and killed her husband inside their Loris area home following a fight about finances, according to an Horry County Police report

Laura Smith, 63, told police she shot Michael Smith, 64, at their home along Long Meadow Drive on Sunday around 9 p.m.

Laura Smith was arrested and charged with murder early Monday morning. She was brought to J. Reuben Long Detention Center where she is currently being held with no bail.

Laura Smith told police she got in a verbal fight with Michael Smith about finances and afterwards, she shot him, according to police documents. Police found Michael Smith laying on the floor of the bedroom with a gunshot wound on the right side of his chest. There was a revolver laying on the ground next to him.

Michael Smith died from the gunshot in his house, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. Willard also confirmed Michael and Laura are married.

After shooting Michael Smith, Laura Smith said she called police and told them she had shot him. Horry County Police are investigating.
