Man dies after hit by pickup truck on Jefferson Highway in Augusta County

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police (VSP) says a man died after he was hit while trying to cross the Jefferson Highway in Augusta County on April 11.

The crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. on Route 250, Jefferson Highway, near Long Meadow Road. State police said a 2001 Dodge RAM 1500 was traveling west on the highway when it was unable to avoid hitting 58-year-old Sean P. Burns, from Fisherville.

He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Investigators said Burns was attempting to cross the five-lane highway when he was hit.

According to VSP, it was raining during the crash and Burns was not wearing any reflective clothing.

State police confirmed the driver of the Dodge remained at the scene and is not being charged.

The crash remains under investigation.
