Man dies after high-speed crash east of Charlotte: CMPD

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One person has lost their life after a crash overnight, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

Authorities were called to the crash around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, just outside of Charlotte city limits.

Officers say they found a 2008 Toyota Highlander heavily damaged in the westbound lanes of Albemarle Road near Pine Grove Avenue. The driver, 31-year-old Jared Sibby, was thrown from the SUV.

He was taken to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives believe Sibby was speeding west on Albemarle Road when he lost control of the SUV and ran off the left side of the road. The SUV flipped multiple times, ejecting Sibby from the vehicle.

A toxicology report is pending and this is still an active investigation.
