Man dies following shooting Saturday night on 200 block of West 61st Street

One man has died following a shooting on Saturday night on the 200 block of West 61st Street.

According to a Savannah Police Department (SPD) press release, SPD responded to the scene based on a ShotSpotter report at around 10 p.m. and discovered the victim suffering from a serious gunshot wound. The victim was provided immediate medical treatment and transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Homicide and forensic units responded to the scene. The scene was processed by forensics and evidence was collected.

The Saturday shooting marked the fifth homicide of the year, according to SPD statistics.
