Man dies during fiery motorcycle crash in Lee’s Summit

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — One man is dead after a fiery motorcycle crash in Lee’s Summit on Thursday night.

Around 7:45 p.m., responders were sent to the intersection of NE Todd George Road and NE Chipman Road on the report of a two-car crash.

According to police, a person was driving a motorcycle southbound on Todd George Road when he crashed into a truck turning north onto Todd George Road from Chipman Road.

Police said the impact caused the truck and motorcycle to catch on fire.

The driver of the motorcycle was 32-year-old Benjamin A. Zumwalt. He lived in Lee’s Summit.

Man charged in connection to suspicious death in southern Johnson County

The truck driver was evaluated at the scene of the crash by paramedics. They did not want to be taken to the hospital.

The motorcycle driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
