Man dies of burns from accident while working at Nicktown area home

Apr. 11—A Barr Township man has died after suffering burns to most of his body during an accident at his Nicktown-area home, investigators said.

According to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office, Ralph Lieb, 76, sustained burns on 70% of his body during an accident at the Nicktown Hill Road residence.

Responders indicated that Lieb was welding at his home Tuesday when the fire sparked.

The incident prompted an emergency call at 3:18 p.m., according to a Cambria County 911 supervisor.

Lieb was transported to an Allegheny County medical center for treatment.

He died from his injuries just before midnight Tuesday, the medical examiner's office reported in a release to The Tribune-Democrat.

An autopsy was conducted and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death as accidental, a report to media shows.
