Man dies after being struck by train in downtown Rochester

May 12—ROCHESTER — Rochester police reported a man died after he was struck by a train Saturday night.

Police were called to the intersection of Broadway Avenue North and Civic Center Drive at about 10:45 p.m. for a report of a man who got hit by a train near the crossing there.

According to police, witnesses say the train engine had crossed the intersection and the 23-year-old man was struck when he got too close to a moving boxcar.

He was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys, where he later died, police report.

In a separate incident, one person was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated when a driver crossed police barricades at the street and railroad crossing and crashed into the Bryk apartment building on First Ave NW while driving in reverse.
