Man dies after altercation leads to shooting in East El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 21-year-old man has died after an altercation led to a shooting Tuesday evening, May 14 in East El Paso, El Paso Police Department’s (EPPD) Public Information Officer Detective Judy Oviedo said.

Oviedo said just after 7 p.m., officers responded to the 10535 block of Montwood Drive at the Vista Village Apartments parking lot on a reported shooting.

Oviedo said officers discovered Bryan Castillo, 21, who had been shot. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Oviedo said the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation between two groups of people.

Oviedo said they currently do not know what caused the altercation and the Crimes Against Persons unit is currently investigating the incident.

Oviedo did confirm one of the groups of people consisted of two men, a woman, and a small child.

Oviedo said no one has been arrested regarding the incident and is asking the public to call EPPD or Crime Stoppers of El Paso if they have any information on this incident.

Oviedo also said they believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

Additionally, EPPD says this is the eigth reported murder for 2024 compared to seven reported murders at the time in 2023.
