Lawrence Wyatt has been identified as the man who died Friday while working at Americold in Rincon. Wyatt, who is 54, is from South Carolina. He was working for Ecolab and was found unresponsive following a chemical release, although it is unclear what caused his death.

“We still do not know the cause of death,” Effingham County Coroner David Exley.

According to Captain Hannah Jenkins of Effingham County Fire Rescue, the crew responded to the scene Friday morning where they found Wyatt unresponsive.

"[It] is not known if his death was related to the chemical or if he suffered a medical emergency prior to the release,” said Jenkins. “The chemical encountered on site is a pesticide used to treat fruits and vegetables. We utilized the facility air scrubbers to remove the chemical and ensure nothing was released into the environment."
