Man charged with murder after shooting wife, chasing down ambulance then crashing in St. Petersburg, police say

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was charged with first-degree murder after police said he shot his wife, chased down the ambulance she was being taken to the hospital in and later crashed.

The St. Petersburg Police Department said it was called to a home on 29th Avenue North for a shooting around 10:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said Devin Hansen and his wife, Yasmin Grijalva, were visiting relatives at the house when they started to argue. Hansen then shot Grijalva, critically injuring her, St. Pete police said. She later died at a hospital.

Officers said Hansen, left the scene in a black Cadillac CTS before emergency crews got to the home.

As Grijalva was taken to a hospital in an ambulance, officials said Hasen started chasing the emergency vehicle on the interstate in a black Cadillac. Officers nearby tried to stop Hansen but he fled south. Then they began a pursuit.

Officers said Hansen later crashed the Cadillac into landscaping rocks on 54th Avenue South.

Hansen was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, fleeing and eluding and domestic battery.
