Man in custody after carjacking leads to chase, crash in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man is in the custody of the New Orleans Police Department after a carjacking led to a chase and crash on Wednesday, April 3.

The NOPD reported that officers responded to a call of a carjacking at the intersection of Earhart Boulevard and Hollygrove Street around 12:02 p.m.

NOPD officials said the victim told officers he was standing next to his company pickup truck when an armed man demanded him to give him his keys and wallet.

The suspect then drove away from the scene in the victim’s truck.

NOPD officials said the Orleans Levee District Police later saw the truck near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Lakeshore Drive.

The truck reportedly crashed into a dump truck near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Mendez Street after a pursuit.

NOPD officials said the suspect was then taken into custody and brought to a hospital for unknown injuries.

Once released, NOPD leaders said he will be booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on charges of carjacking and felon in possession of a firearm.
