Man critically hurt by hit-and-run driver in East Village

A hit-and-run driver struck and critically injured a man leaving work in the East Village early Sunday.

Police found the 53-year-old victim unconscious about 5:45 a.m. on St. Mark’s Place near Third Ave. with head injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle, police said.

Investigators believe he was hit by a driver who did not remain at the scene.

The man worked nearby and one of his co-workers saw him on the ground and called for help, cops said.

Medics took the victim to Bellevue Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
