Man convicted of shooting ex’s new boyfriend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man faces up to 25 years in prison after being convicted of wounding his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend when he fired a shot into a home prosecutors say was also occupied by the ex, and the shooter’s daughter.

Jose Muro Jr., 28, was found guilty of attempted voluntary manslaughter and other crimes in the Nov. 2, 2022 shooting in east Bakersfield. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on April 15.

Bakersfield police release footage of Jan. 18 fatal officer involved shooting on Chester Ave.

During an argument with his ex and her boyfriend, Muro fired into a house and hit the boyfriend, who spent more than two months receiving treatment for the wound, according to the District Attorney’s Office. The shot was fired “in the immediate direction” of the ex and Muro’s child, prosecutors say.

“Muro’s violence injured one, and endangered the lives of several — including his own child,” District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer said in a release. “This conviction will bring peace to the family he terrorized, ensuring they can feel safe once more.”
