Man charged in northeast Wichita fatal shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man has been charged for the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Jaden Wilson in northeast Wichita last week.

According to court documents, 41-year-old Tyree Jackson has been charged with murder in the first degree; in the commission of a felony and criminal discharge of a firearm; occupied vehicle with great bodily harm.

Jackson is being held on a $750,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court on Friday, April 5.

The 17-year-old who turned himself in had a detention hearing on Monday. A date has not been set for a Mapp hearing.

The Wichita Police Department said at 5:21 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, officers were flagged down regarding a shooting near the intersection of East 21st Street North and North Grove Street.

Officers found Wilson outside a gold Buick in the 2200 block of N. Grove Street. Someone had shot him multiple times. First responders tried to save him, but he died at the scene.

The WPD said a witness was in the car. The witness gave officers information that helped them identify a suspect.

According to police, the preliminary investigation shows the shooting stemmed from an ongoing feud between two people, and it appears to have been an isolated incident.

Shortly after the shooting, police say a 17-year-old boy surrendered at the jail. He was booked into the Juvenile Detention Facility on suspicion of first-degree murder and criminal discharge into an occupied vehicle.
