Man charged with murdering woman in Columbus might have been romantically linked to victim

A man charged with murder in the death of a 30-year-old woman in Columbus in April pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning in Columbus Recorder’s Court.

Tobias Gibson has been charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the death of Jakesa Josey who was killed in a shooting on April 15 in the 800 block of Morris Road, according to police.

Columbus Police Detective Chris Snipes told the court that responding officers found Josey in a camper trailer in a lot in the area dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Snipes said witnesses stated that Josey and Gibson had been involved in an intimate relationship but had recently broken up.

Video retrieved from the lot showed a suspect approach Josey’s bedroom window and look inside, walk away only to return a few moments later. Video showed the suspect firing approximately 14 rounds from outside the trailer and into the window, killing Josey, according to Snipes.

Snipes said he was later able to locate a witness who saw Gibson at 800 Morris Road approximately three minutes prior to the time stamp on the video from the security camera from the lot.

The witness said they saw Gibson with a pistol and saw him walking toward the lot where Josey’s trailer was located, according to Snipes.

Snipes said the witness identified Gibson in a six-person photo line-up and recognized the clothing from the security video as the same clothing he saw Gibson wearing prior to the shooting.

Judge David Ranieri found probable cause and bound the case over to Superior Court.
