Man charged after deadly hit-and-run crash in Dickson

DICKSON, Tenn. (WKRN) – Authorities said they have arrested a man accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian in Dickson over the weekend.

The Dickson Police Department said the crash happened on Saturday, May 11 on Beasley Drive near the intersection of Cowan Road.

Authorities reported a preliminary investigation indicates that 48-year-old Joseph Simms II, of White Bluff, was walking along the roadway when he was struck from behind.

Police said they responded to a welfare check on Sunday, May 12 around 6:40 a.m. and found Simms lying next to the road where he was pronounced dead.

A tip allegedly led police to arrest 46-year-old Nathaniel McReynolds for his connection to the deadly crash.

McReynolds was arrested on Sunday, May 12 for an unrelated violation probation charge. After further investigation, additional warrants charging McReynolds with aggravated vehicular homicide, driving on a revoked license, driving without a driver’s license, and driving without an ignition interlock device were obtained.

According to detectives, McReynolds’ license was revoked due to a previous DUI conviction, which required him to use an ignition interlock device in order to get a driver’s license.

The vehicle that hit Simms was reportedly sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Forensic Services Division.

An investigation into the deadly crash continues and additional charges may be pursued, officials said.

Anyone who might have seen a man walking along Beasley Drive, or lying on the south side of the roadway from 8 p.m. Saturday, May 11 to 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 12 is asked to call the Dickson Police Department at 615-441-9527.
