Man charged after allegedly threatening Iowa TE with gun at a park
A man has been charged with making a terroristic threat with a gun after allegedly threatening Iowa tight end Noah Fant at a park in Omaha, Nebraska.
Per police, Fant was at a park Tuesday evening and approached by Matthew Trimble, who pointed a gun at Fant and told him to leave the park. After leaving the park, Fant called police, who found the man after he told them that he had seen Trimble around the park before and believed that he lived nearby. From WHO TV:
As officers were searching the area near the park they spotted a man matching the description provided by Fant run into a home. Police were able to talk to the man’s mother, who convinced him to come to the door. Officers reported the man, 23-year-old Matthew Trimble, was heavily intoxicated and placed him in the back of their cruiser for their own safety. Trimble’s mother says her son told her that he had confronted a group he believed to be smoking marijuana in the park. She agreed to turn over his handgun to officers. Police say the gun was loaded with one round in the chamber and 11 in the magazine.
If Trimble believed people in the park were smoking pot and was troubled by the possibility, the logical thing to do would be to call police and let them do some investigating. But perhaps due to some liquid courage, Trimble took it into his own hands and is now charged with a felony.
Fant, a native of Omaha, had nine catches for 70 yards as a true freshman in 2016.
