Man charged for allegedly shooting at driver in Lee’s Summit road rage incident

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — A Holt, Missouri man is facing charges for allegedly shooting at another driver during a road rage incident in Lee’s Summit.

Jackson County prosecutors have charged Jacob Easter, 44, with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

According to court documents, on Tuesday, April 16, while the victim was driving south on I-470, he noticed a maroon Chrysler Town and Country minivan traveling erratically ahead of him.

The victim proceeded to get in the left lane and pass the driver of the minivan who was in the right lane. After passing the minivan the victim returned to the right lane when he noticed the minivan immediately get directly behind him, according to court documents.

Court documents say the victim continued to travel south on I-470, just south of NE Bowlin Road, when he noticed the driver of the minivan move back to the left lane to pass him. As the suspect driver was passing him in the left lane, the victim noticed the driver pointing a handgun directly at him through a halfway-opened front passenger window. The victim immediately applied the brakes when he heard a single gunshot from the direction of the minivan.

The victim called 911 and continued to follow the driver of the minivan while providing updated locations.

Officers located both vehicles and conducted a traffic stop on the minivan. The driver, Easter, was found to be in possession of a 9mm Taurus semi-automatic handgun loaded with 10 rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition, according to court documents. A single spent 9mm Luger casing was also located on the driver’s side floorboard of Easter’s vehicle as well as another spent 9mm Hornaday casing on the passenger side dashboard.

An inspection of the exterior of the victim’s vehicle revealed it to have a fresh single gunshot hole consistent with a 9mm round located just past the driver’s side door in the front fender just above the wheel well, according to court documents.

Easter is being held on a $100,000 cash only bond.

His next court appearance is scheduled on April 24 at 1 p.m. for a bond review hearing.
