Man charged with 252 charges of stealing, assault, and more

ST. LOUIS — Gage Luttman, 36, is now charged with an astounding 252 criminal counts ranging from stealing and burglary to property damage and assault, in the City of St. Louis between August of 2023 and April 2024.

More than 130 counts are for alleged break-ins at the same storage place on McCausland Avenue. More than 30 counts are for alleged break-ins at another storage place on Hereford Street, plus dozens more at various homes and garages. In April, police recovered a trove of stolen items at a house on Hermitage Avenue in St. Louis near the Maplewood city line.

Questions swirl following Kirkwood elementary principal resignation

The Circuit Attorney has now filed formal charges against Luttman. Police say he got to be so blatant that late in March he stole an electric lawnmower and extension cords from someone’s garage; he was then captured by surveillance using the mower and the cords at the house on Hermitage.

“We had to utilize a box truck to take all the property away when we recovered it all,” St. Louis Police Sgt. Charles Wall told Fox 2, Monday. “A lot of electronics, a lot of tools. There was even some sports memorabilia, kind of floor-to-ceiling in different rooms of the house, just a lot of stuff. If we can identify the rightful owner, it’s certainly our goal to get that back to them.”

Much of the stolen property has been returned to its rightful owners, police said.
Police have posted photos of 120 still unclaimed stolen items here. Anyone who believes any of the items belongs to them can e-mail the St. Louis Police South Patrol Burglary Squad at recoveredproperty@slmpd.org. You will need to provide a police report number and agency that took the theft report (if possible).

The still-unclaimed items include an electric mower, a Macbook Pro laptop, bicycles, golf clubs, and a lot of tools. A worker at one the storage places says the break-ins have completely stopped since Luttman’s arrest in April. Luttman was on probation for past offenses and is being held without bond, for now, pending trial.
