Man arrested trying to rob Hanford store with hammer, police say

HANFORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 33-year-old man has been arrested in Hanford on suspicion of robbery and a probation violation warrant after using a hammer to rob a store, the Hanford Police Department said.

On Friday, police say they received a 911 call from the Family Dollar at 410 W. 7th St. in Hanford. It was reported that a male approached the register with a hammer and demanded a manager a key for the safe. The employee fled to the back and called 911.

Police say the officers quickly arrived and located 33-year-old Eric Guerra, fleeing the area on foot. Guerra left the hammer in the store – but was found in possession of a 12-inch butcher-style knife taken from the store.

According to the police department, Guerra was found to be on Post Community Release Supervision after he was released from custody on April 7. Guerra was booked into the Kings County Jail.
