Man Arrested After Speeding 46 MPH Over The Limit: Riverside Cops

The man also had been drinking, had alcohol in plain sight and had cannabis in the car, police said.

RIVERSIDE, IL — An Oak Park man was arrested in Riverside after he was driving 81 mph in a 35 mph zone, and also had vodka in plain sight and cannabis in the car, police said. Terrance Wilson, 34, was charged with aggravated speeding (46 over posted speed limit), improper lane usage, DUI, possession of cannabis, possession of open alcohol while driving and no vehicle insurance.

Police said an officer saw Wilson's vehicle at First and Parkview at 12:31 a.m. Nov. 30 and clocked the car going 81 mph in a 35 mph zone and moving from lane to lane. The officer conducted a traffic stop and as the officer walked up to Wilson's car he observed a red Solo cup in plain sight that contained liquid and ice cubes.

Wilson told police the drink was vodka. Police said the officer also immediately smelled alcohol on the Wilson's breath, and cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. Wilson then failed all field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.

While searching the car prior toit being towed, police said officers recovered Citron vodka, beer and cannabis. The arresting officer also recovered credit card receipts from bars where Wilson had been drinking.

“For those who think the holiday drinking season hasn't started, this serves as an example that it has," Police Chief Thomas Weitzel said in a release. "This man had been out all night drinking and then got into his vehicle and attempted to drive home. At the speed he was going and the way he was driving, if he hadn’t been stopped by one of my officers, he may have very well have killed himself or someone else."

Weitzel recommended using a ride share company if you have been drinking. Riverside Police Department has a partnership with Lyft and if you need a discount coupon, you can come to the police department and get one.

"You can get these coupons before you attend any gathering where alcohol is being served. Drunk and drugged driving is not a socially acceptable holiday practice. Designate a driver or use a ride share.”
