ZANESVILLE — A man was taken into custody just minutes after a shooting at Zanesville City Hall on Monday morning. No one was injured.

Zanesville Police Detective Sgt. Phil Michel said ZPD received a call around 9:47 a.m. in regards to a shooting incident at city hall, 401 Market St. One man came into the utilities billing office and appeared to be upset. He had left the building and walked onto California Street, where he then pulled a handgun and shot several times through the billing window. Employees were in the office when the shooting occurred.

A description was provided of the suspect. Officers and detectives responded to the call and were able to find the suspect blocks away from city hall. The suspect was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered. Only three minutes had elapsed from the time the call was received until the time the suspect was in custody, Michel noted.

The suspect is currently in the Zanesville City Jail.

The billing office was closed for the remainder of the day on Monday.
