A 46-year-old man who was arrested in connection to a shooting in County Down has been released on bail to allow for further enquiries.

Police said a man in his 40s was shot by a masked man in a car park on the Rathfriland Road in Banbridge on Friday night.

He remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

The 46-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy of murder.

Police believe the suspect made off from the scene in a silver-coloured Peugeot vehicle.

They said they are investigating a possible link to a silver Peugeot that was found burnt out a short time later in the Drone Hill Road area of Corbet.

Police have appealed to witnesses to contact them, saying they would especially like to hear from anyone who may have any CCTV, dash-cam or mobile footage.
