NEW YORK (AP) — Police say they've made an arrest in the broad daylight attack on a 73-year-old birdwatcher in New York City's Central Park.

New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne identified the suspect on Thursday as David Albert Mitchell.

Browne says the 42-year-old suspect had been taken into custody on Wednesday night for questioning after the woman reported the attack. He was expected to face rape charges.

The woman had told police she believed her attacker was a man who she photographed fondling himself in the park nine days ago. She says he tried to grab her camera but was unsuccessful.

On Wednesday, the woman says the man grabbed her from behind and raped her. She was taken to a hospital.
