Man arrested after car rams Derry bank building

A man has been arrested after a car was rammed into a bank building in Londonderry several times, causing "significant damage".

The 47-year-old was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink-driving, criminal damage and attempted theft following the incident shortly before 23:40 BST on Monday.

Police received a report that a red car had rammed the front of the Ulster Bank building on Culmore Road several times before leaving and later returning.

The man was arrested at the scene and remained in police custody on Tuesday morning.

The police said the suspect became verbally abusive towards officers during the arrest and also kicked the headrests of their car.

They have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
