Man arrested for aggravated assault after road rage incident

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 24-year-old man was arrested Thursday following a road rage incident on Bill Morris Parkway at Forest Hill Irene Road.

Jarvis Ross has been charged with aggravated assault and tampering with evidence after allegedly shooting at another man’s vehicle.

At 5:30 p.m., deputies were called in response to one vehicle chasing and shooting at another. While on the phone, the dispatcher could hear shots being fired in the background.

When they arrived to the area, a deputy saw a gray Chevrolet Malibu, traveling westbound East Shelby Drive from Forest Hill Irene Road at a high rate of speed.

Deputies pulled over the driver who was later identified as Ross, who initially denied having any knowledge of the incident.

However, the victim of the alleged shooting, tells a different story.

When he spoke to deputies at 4647 Forest Hill Irene Road, he claimed that the driver of the Malibu had fired shots at his vehicle, a GMC Sierra.

The victim said that he merged onto eastbound Bill Morris Parkway from Riverdale Road when Ross’ Chevy Malibu attempted to merge into his lane. He added that he maintained his lane, which made Ross get behind him and eventually drive in the emergency lane in an attempt to pass him.

Allegedly as Ross drove beside him, he held a black handgun with a large drum out of his window straight up in the air. To try to get away from him, the man accelerated his vehicle, but was being chased by Ross who was still in the emergency lane.

As the victim passed the Forest Hill Irene Road exit, Ross got off the highway and fired multiple shots into the vehicle. Though the man was not injured, deputies noticed a bullet hole in the rear bumper of his GMC Sierra.

In detectives follow-up interview with Ross, he told his side of the story.

He claimed that the victim’s truck brake checked him when it was in front of him. When the truck then got into the far left lane, Ross then drove into the emergency lane to get in front of the truck.

Though Ross admits that he did wave the gun, he denies firing any shots.

He then says he threw the handgun out the passenger side window as he was driving on I-385 to Forest Hill Irene Road. Ross also confirmed to detectives that the handgun was stolen.

Deputies checked the are where he said he threw the weapon, but were unable to locate it.

Ross has since been taken to 201 Poplar without incident.
