On Wednesday, a no-bond warrant was issued for Asa Peck, 45, in the death of Wilkes. Loveland police said he was arrested that evening without incident.

Peck was booked in the Larimer County Jail and faces a first-degree murder charge.

In August 2022, Wilkes’ family told FOX31 that she was a mother, grandmother, sibling and a giving person who would do anything for anyone.

“While we understand this will not take away the pain Chantell’s family and friends are feeling, we are hopeful the progress in this case will bring her loved ones some peace,” Loveland Police Chief Tim Doran said.

Suspect had significant criminal history

FOX31 obtained records from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation that reveal Peck was arrested multiple times in recent years, and faced criminal charges.

Most of those charges were dismissed by the district attorney, according to the CBI records, for unspecified reasons. However, he was found guilty on a handful of charges over the years involving:

  • obstructing a peace officer (2017)

  • DUI (2018)

  • possession of controlled substances (2018, 2019,

  • trespassing (2019)

  • property damage (2019)

  • obstructing government operations (2020)

  • assault causing injury (2022)

  • contempt of court violation (2022)

On March 31, 2022, Peck was arrested by Loveland police on charges of assault causing injury, assault menacing and harassment. In this case, Peck was convicted of assault causing injury and received a three-day sentence as well as a three-day credit for time served. The other two charges were dismissed by the district attorney.

On Aug. 25, 2022, three days after the alleged murder of Wilkes, Peck was arrested and charged with an assault that took place on July 24, 2022. In this case, a third-degree assault charge was dismissed by the district attorney and Peck was found guilty of contempt of court violation, for which he was sentenced to 200 days in jail.

Peck is currently being held in the Larimer County Jail on a $2 million cash-only bond.
