Man admits to playing ‘little sexual games’ with child during police job interview

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WJW) – A Florida man was found guilty of sexual battery on a child on May 8 after he openly admitted to it during a job interview for the Apopka Police Department.

According to a press release from the office of State Attorney Andrew A. Bain, 26-year-old Stephen Bodley was interviewing for a job at the Apopka Police Department on June 16, 2021, for a position as a sworn police officer.

During the interview, a certified voice stress analysis examiner did a voice stress test on Bodley. That is when he was asked to expand on “concerning answers he provided in a pre-test questionnaire,” the release said.

During that examination, Bodley described sexually abusing a child several years ago, which he also admitted when the examiner asked him to explain further.

According to PEOPLE, an arrest warrant affidavit said Bodley described sexually assaulting a younger child when he was 12 to 13 years old and said that the incidents occurred 10 years ago in his home.

“I can’t remember but um, but what do you call it, yes, um, I used to um, play these little sexual games, like oral with my little [redacted] and I known she, she didn’t know fully what was going on, and I used to watch porn a lot, so I had like a little addiction when I was younger,” Bodley said, according to PEOPLE.

According to the release, the Apopka Police Department initiated a criminal investigation into Bodley after this confession, which led police to identify the victim and her mother.

Police then met with the victim and her mother at the police station, where they were informed of Bodley’s confession.

Bodley was then called back to the station, where he was arrested.

After a three-day trial, a jury on May 8 found Bodley guilty of sexual battery of a child younger than 12 by a person younger than 18. He testified during the trial but denied sexually abusing the victim, despite previously admitting to committing the crime on three separate occasions, the release said.
