Man accused of shooting at car full of kids, facing 6 attempted murder charges

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was arrested on six counts of attempted first-degree murder, one year to the day after police say he fired shots into a car full of kids.

According to reports, on May 17, 2023, before the shooting, the father of the kids broke up a fight between the kids’ mother and another woman.

After breaking up the fight, the father and mother, along with their four children, got into his 2015 Chevrolet Impala and drove off. The father told police that he heard several shots fired in his direction and two of them hit the car.

Reports say Larry Dillard, the father of the other woman’s children, was the one shooting at the Impala.

None of the occupants inside the car were injured in the incident.

On May 23, 2023, the father positively identified Dillard in a six-person photographic lineup as the person who shot at his car.

Dillard, who is a convicted felon, was taken into custody on Friday.

He is charged with six counts of criminal attempt first-degree murder, six counts of employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, six counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and vandalism of property $1,000-$2,500.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning.
