Man accused of shooting at AR deputy gets $150K bond

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is in custody after he was accused of firing shots at a Phillips County, Arkansas, deputy.

The Phillips County Sheriff’s Department says deputies responded to a disturbance involving a firearm at a business in Oneida at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the sheriff’s department, a man identified as Willie Chairs exited the business and fired three rounds at a deputy.

The sheriff’s department says off-duty deputies were called to the scene and were able to establish a perimeter. Arkansas State Police also responded to the scene.

Deputies reportedly found Chairs at his home on County Road 384. The sheriff’s department says deputies tried to get Chairs to drop his weapon but he threatened law enforcement.

Law enforcement was reportedly able to deploy a taser and take Chairs into custody without further incident.

Chairs has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by certain persons, terrorist acts, and criminal mischief.

Chairs reportedly went before a judge and was given a bond of $150,000. The sheriff’s department says Chairs is currently being held in the Phillips County Detention Center.
