Man accused of shooting 2 women at Springfield daycare appears in court

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — The man who was accused of shooting two women at a daycare in Springfield appeared in court Friday.

According to court documents, Julio Sejas, 41, of Arlington, shot his wife in the arm and her coworker in the abdomen. The shooting took place at KinderCare in the 8500 block of Bauer Dr. just before 2:15 p.m. on March 27.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said Sejas went to the front door to try and talk to one of the victims, who was his estranged wife. When the woman did not open the door, Sejas shot three rounds through the door.

Both women required surgery. The co-worker was in serious condition when warrants were sworn out, according to court documents.

Sejas was arrested Thursday at Dulles International Airport, where he was “picking up his girlfriend,” according to the Fugitive Team at the airport.

He was taken into custody without incident and was held without bond because of the violent nature of the offenses he committed.

Court documents showed that Sejas had a prior criminal history of assault and battery on a family member and that he had violated a court order. He had no arrests since 2002.

Sejas also had a Bolivian passport that he was required to surrender. Documents said that he lived with his parents and that he had been at his current address in Arlington since the 1990s.

His next hearing was scheduled for July 3.
