Man accused of sexually assaulting cashier at New Orleans business

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department announced Thursday, May 23 that an arrest was made in a rape investigation.
According to officers, at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 21-year-old Ernest Dixon entered a business on St. Ann Street and allegedly threatened the woman behind the cash register with a gun.

During the incident, officers said Dixon allegedly sexually assaulted the woman and took her phone before leaving the scene.
Through an investigation, sex crimes detectives, with the help of the NOPD Sex Offender’s Registry Unit and the U.S Marshals, were able to identify, locate and arrest Dixon.

He now faces charges of first-degree rape and theft.
Additionally, Dixon was wanted and arrested on a domestic violence charge from an April incident. He was charged with domestic abuse aggravated assault, illegal possession of stolen things and domestic abuse aggravated assault child endangerment.
