Man accused of pushing girlfriend onto Manhattan subway tracks pleads not guilty

LOWER MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man accused of shoving his girlfriend onto subway tracks in Manhattan over the weekend pleaded not guilty during his arraignment, according to officials.

Brooklyn resident Christian Valdez, 35, was charged with attempted murder and felony assault. He allegedly got into a fight with his girlfriend at the Fulton-William Streets subway station on Saturday morning when he pushed her onto the tracks as a southbound No. 3 train pulled in, police said.

The woman was struck by the train and rushed to the hospital, according to authorities. Doctors amputated the woman’s right leg below the knee and her left leg above the knee, according to the criminal complaint. She also suffered from multiple rib fractures and a blood clot in her lungs, per the complaint.

Valdez was remanded without bail. He was out on parole since January 2023 after being convicted for a previous assault, according to authorities.

His next court appearance is March 15.
