Man accused of manslaughter, reckless driving in deadly Christmas Day crash

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A 26-year-old man faces charges after a deadly multi-car crash in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood on Christmas Day 2023.

Authorities arrested Martell Mason on March 27 after finding he had been the person driving the vehicle that led to the crash near Southeast 122nd Avenue and Powell Boulevard.

Officers previously suspected a man who died from his injuries after the crash, 24-year-old Conner Wells, had been the driver. Detectives later realized he was a passenger in Mason’s car.

Mason is charged with first- and second-degree manslaughter, failure to perform the duties of a driver, and reckless driving. He also faces two counts of fourth-degree assault and two counts of recklessly endangering another person.
