MCHENRY, Ill. — A man was charged after allegedly leaving his 9-month-old baby at home to rob a bank Monday morning in McHenry.

Just before 10:45 a.m., authorities responded to a Huntington Bank branch on the report of an armed robbery.

Police allege Peter Sova, 36, fled on foot after robbing the bank with what was believed to be a handgun.

Sova was arrested in a field on the property of The Church of Holy Apostles, located in the 5200 block of West Bull Valley Road.

Officers allege Sova left his nine-month-old boy alone at home during the robbery. The baby was taken into protective custody and then released to the custody of his mother.

Sova was charged with aggravated robbery, theft and child abandonment.
