Man accused of hitting son-in-law with stick

Dec. 23—An Odessa Police Department probable cause affidavit detailed a 67-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of hitting his son-in-law with a wooden stick in the back of the head.

Rosalio Tavares Flores was arrested on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

The reported assault happened at 5:33 p.m. Dec. 21 in the 300 block of McKnight Drive, the affidavit stated.

Dispatch stated the complainant, identified as Antonio Cano, advised his wife's dad assaulted him with a pipe. When officers arrived at the residence, Cano was on the street. Cano stated he was inside the residence talking to his wife, identified as Kassarah Garica.

Cano told officers that out of nowhere Flores assaulted him with a pipe in the back of the head causing pain, the affidavit stated. Officers felt the back of Cano's head and it appeared to be swollen.

Officers made contact with Flores and asked him what happened, the affidavit stated. Flores stated to police that Cano is not welcome inside the residence and has been warned several times.

Flores also stated to police he saw Cano talking to Garcia and asked him if he had no shame being inside the residence after being warned. Flores stated Cano advised him no and he grabbed a stick and struck him in the back.

Flores also stated to police that Cano never assaulted him or did anything to him, the affidavit stated. Officers asked Flores what he struck Cano with and he handed officers a wooden stick about 16 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter.

Officers spoke with Garcia who stated Cano was with their children and they were talking when Flores assault Cano, the affidavit stated. Garica stated she then yelled for her grandma to take Flores away.

Flores was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Dec. 22, jail records show. He has one surety bond totaling $30,000 and was still in custody as of Friday morning.
