Man accused of attempting to sneak $1.5K in ammo out of store arrested

LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a man accused of trying to sneak $1,500 worth of ammunition out of the Academy located in Juban Crossing.

Edward Gerald Richardson III, 26, was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail. Richardson faces charges of theft, simple burglary and tampering with surveillance.

“Working with business leaders, we learned this suspect would select two large box items (cheaper in value) upon entering the store,” said Sheriff Jason Ard. “The suspect would then remove the contents of one box and conceal that item in store.”

Richardson, would then, go to the ammunition section of the store and pack the empty box with large quantities of ammunition. At checkout, Richardson would “scan the large boxes but not the concealed ammo,” according to LPSO.

LPSO has been in contact with the Denham Springs Police Department, Lafayette Police Department, Hammond Police Department, Slidell Police Department, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office where Richardson has been charged or could be facing additional charges, said Ard in a news release.
