Man, 64, shot and killed while walking on sidewalk on city’s South Side, Chicago police say

CHICAGO — A 64-year-old man was shot and killed while walking on the sidewalk Monday night on the city’s South Side.

According to Chicago police, the victim was on the sidewalk around 9 p.m. in the 9100 block of South Stony Island Avenue, generally a busy street along the boundary between Calumet Heights and Burnside, when an unknown male approached him, shot him and fled westbound.

Police say the victim was shot in the head and chest and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police had blocked off the corner of East 91st Street and South Stony Island Ave. late Monday night while they investigated. It’s unknown if the shooting was targeted, and police have not given a motive.

Nobody is in custody, and Area Two detectives are investigating.
