PORT WASHINGTON — A 25-year-old man was missing after a canoe capsized in the Tuscarawas River on Saturday morning.

The Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office reported being told at 8:20 a.m. Saturday that a canoe used by two men, ages 27 and 25, had turned over near River Hill Road and South St. Clairsville Road just outside the village of Port Washington.

The 27-year-old was able to get ashore and call 911. But he lost sight of the 25-year-old, who has been identified by Sheriff Orvis Campbell as Keith Edward Schlabach of the Baltic area.

Firefighters, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the sheriff's office responded for a search and rescue.

The man remained missing as of Monday morning.
