Mama's Boy! NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant Shares Sweet Moment with Mother After Victory

After winning the first NBA championship of his career, the Golden State Warriors’ Kevin Durant had eyes for only one person amid the mass of players, coaches and reporters swarming the court — his mom, Wanda.

An ecstatic Durant and his mother united and embraced at halfcourt following the exciting win.

When asked what it meant for Durant, who was crowned the NBA Finals MVP, to share the moment with Wanda, he got emotional.

“She’s seen me as a kid putting in work. She’s seen how I come home after losses and how tough I take it … it feels good to see it come full circle,” he said. And when he accepted his Finals MVP award, he had another message for her: “We did it. I told you when I was 8 years old. We did it.”

Reporters attempting to scoot in for an interview with Durant post-win were interrupted by his mom, who leaned over to whisper in her son’s ear.

“You hear me? No matter what anybody says, you did it!” she said to Durant.

“I’m proud of you, son.”

Durant’s admiration for his mother is no secret — in 2014 he tearfully told her, “You’re the real MVP,” while accepting his NBA MVP award.

“We weren’t supposed to be here. You made us believe,” he added. “You kept us off the street. You put clothes on our backs. You put food on the table. When you didn’t eat, you made sure we ate and [you] went to sleep hungry.”
