Are Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd Expecting Their First Child?

It may be time for Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy to buy a few pairs of baby-sized dancing shoes!

The Dancing with the Stars pros, who were (appropriately) engaged while on a dance floor in December, are expecting, multiple sources tell PEOPLE.

While this will be the first child for both Murgatroyd, 29, and Chmerkovskiy, 36, the pregnancy news comes as no surprise considering the pair has opened up recently about wanting to start a family.

“I would like to start [having kids] pretty soon,” Murgatroyd admitted in a PEOPLE cover story shortly following the couple’s engagement. “A little boy, and then a little girl.”

And while Chmerkovskiy thinks it’d be better the other way around because he thinks “an older girl would be more responsible,” he can’t wait to experience their new family too — and not just in the kids sense, but also because he gets to enjoy Murgatroyd’s company even longer after the kids move out.

“I’m not just looking forward to the next 20 years. I’m looking forward to the 20 years after that, when the kids are out of the house and it’s just the two of us again,” explained Chmerkovskiy, who heads out with his brother on Maks & Val Live on Tour: Our Way this summer. “I can’t wait.”

As for their plans to walk down the aisle, the newly crowned season 22 mirrorball champion was tight-lipped when asked by reporters after the DWTS finale on Monday, but she did reveal that they have “chosen some dates.”

A rep for the couple has yet to comment.
