Major shift in Ukraine’s Security Council: Top intelligence official replaces Danilov as new Defence Secretary

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Oleksiy Danilov from the position of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) and appointed Oleksandr Lytvynenko, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service (FIS), to replace him.

This is stated in the respective decrees on the president's website, published on March 26.

Danilov was the thirteenth Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine and held this position since Oct. 3, 2019.

Lytvynenko has been heading the Foreign Intelligence Service since July 23, 2021. Prior to this, from April 4, 2014, to Aug. 13, 2019, he served as Deputy Secretary of the NSDC.
