Hazelgreen Rd NE between Salem and Silverton will be closed starting Monday and at least through the summer as Farline Bridge Inc., rebuilds a 55-year-old bridge over the Pudding River under a contract with Marion County.

The county said the bridge which was constructed in 1969 is held up by wood pilings and a wood deck that have reached the end of their lifespans.

The bridge will be replaced with a wider one made of concrete. The project being paid for with federal funds is estimated to cost $6.8 million.

The county said Torvend Rd NE, which has a junction with Hazelgreen just west of the Pudding River, will reopen by June 30, while Hazelgreen will reopen by Oct. 31.

Part of the project includes realigning Torvend Road to form a junction with Hazelgreen to the west of where it currently is located.

While Hazelgreen is closed, traffic will be diverted to the south. Drivers west of the bridge will be directed south via Howell Prairie onto Silverton Road. On the east side of the bridge, traffic will be diverted onto 75th Avenue to Silverton Road.

Silverton Road was closed between Salem and Silverton in 2021 for a similar bridge replacement over a different tributary of the Pudding River.
