Mainland China reports 143 new confirmed cases of coronavirus on March 5

BEIJING, March 6 (Reuters) - Mainland China had 143 new confirmed cases of coronavirus infections on Thursday, the country's National Health Commission said on Friday, up from 139 cases a day earlier.

That brings the total accumulated number of confirmed cases in mainland China so far to 80,552.

The death toll from the outbreak in mainland China was 3,042 as of the end of Thursday, up by 30 from the previous day.

The central province of Hubei, the epicentre of the outbreak, reported 29 new deaths. In the provincial capital of Wuhan, 23 people died. (Reporting by Ryan Woo and Huizhong Wu; Editing by Christian Schmollinger)
