All mail unsalvageable after Wednesday tractor-trailer fire in Norfolk

All mail on the tractor-trailer contracted by the United States Postal Service that caught fire Wednesday in Norfolk was destroyed.

A spokesperson for the postal service said Thursday the mail on the truck, which was en route to a Norfolk processing facility from a Richmond processing facility, was not salvageable.

The fire early Wednesday morning caused major delays on Interstate 64 near Willoughby Spit. No one was injured and the truck was the only vehicle involved, the fire department said.

The USPS spokesperson provided no information about the volume of mail on the truck.

Customers with questions about their mail can contact their local post office or the district consumer affairs office at 804-775-6313.
